LILLIAN JIA

Creator of things and interactions

Video and vector animation has always been something that I've enjoyed creating. I also dabble in a bit of sound design here and there, being a hobby singer and all. As for process, after the purpose and flow of the video have been determined, I would begin with a pencil and paper, sketching out rough storyboards. During this process, specs are also roughly laid out: types of animation/transition, what kind of shot is it, sound effects perhaps, and the list goes on. Then the storyboard is digitally transformed into stills, and from there, the magic happens–movement and sound.

Pivot Technology Services

Animated Video

creative direction. animation. sound.

I was asked to create a video to show off Pivot's new brand to the internal team. They called it a "transformation", and wanted something bold and techy, yet still sleek and corporate. The movie "Transformers" was mentioned and I literally think I heard the sound of a lightbulb switching on in my brain. Why? Have a look-see.

Fort York Food Bank

Promotional Video

creative direction. production. post-production.

This is a simple video shot and produced for Fort York Food Bank (FYFB) to promote they're annual fundraiser. The tone of the video is split between one of melancholy and of hope: the prior asks the viewer what someone can do with only $3, and the latter is what the FYFB have been doing to save those $3 for people who really need it. The event was packed and quite successful.

Tekelec

Animated Video

art direction. animation. sound.

This is one of the four videos created for Tekelec to visualize what their product offerings were. They're all quite content heavy and long in terms of time, but they're educational videos attempting to explain difficult processes; so in this case, I'll admit the lengths are appropriate. The friendly graphics and sound effects are attempts to keep the viewer engaged, and even delighted, during these long explanations.
